Ad serving opportunities for different publisher types (part 2)

hacking There are many websites with ads for a good reason. It is a very common and easy way to monetize your valuable content. There are many publishers with thousands of visitors and millions of ad impressions. However, not all websites and ads are equal. Some websites are ideal for ad serving. On the other hand, there are specific publisher categories that might not be suitable to serve ads, or at least certain types of ads. We will discuss different reasons below.

Adult websites

Adult websites are typically tricky and often inappropriate for many advertisers, owing to stringent content regulations. General advertisers should avoid adult websites, as they can damage their brand reputation and lead to negative associations. However, if your business is also adult-only then it might be a suitable option, or even the only option. It all depends on aligning the advertiser’s target audience and the publisher’s audience.

Gambling websites

Gambling websites can be precarious for advertisers, due to legal complexities and concerns. Some states, provinces and countries allow online gambling but many do not. Applying and monitoring accurate ad restrictions, especially geo-targeting settings, in your ad serving solution is critical to ensure compliance with multiple layers of regulations. Regular advertisers should avoid gambling websites in general as they can lead to negative associations and legal issues. However, if you are in the same industry then you are probably familiar with the rules and can navigate them successfully to your advantage and broaden your business.

Illegal websites

Places that endorse illegal activities, stolen content, pirated software are not suitable for ad serving. Advertisers should avoid these illicit websites at all costs because they can destroy the advertiser’s brand reputation and lead to many legal issues. If you advertise via ad networks or exchanges, make sure you check their reputation and use your own ad server to monitor ad delivery carefully so that your ads do not display on illegal, banned or black-market websites. It is always a good idea to select and choose your ad partners carefully and make sure they have a proven track record.

Low-quality websites

These websites are characterized by inferior content, spammy advertising, or intrusive pop-ups. They might generate a lot of impressions but yield few clicks or conversions. Advertisers should avoid these low-quality websites because they can damage the advertiser’s brand reputation due to negative associations. Moreover, paying for invisible or non-viewable impressions is just a huge waste of your limited dollars. With enough bad exposure, it might get your website into various block lists.
